Slow down your eating and give your digestion a chance

You must have heard this couple of times when you

were a kid “Eat slowly and chew your food well” but

as we grow up we tend to forget this rule. Eating

slowly and chewing the food well is as important as

eating healthy food.

The digestion of carbohydrate actually begins in your

mouth, and then continues in your small intestine

. Protein is digested mainly in your stomach. When

you chew, your stomach is sent messages about

what is on its way and so can prepare the correct

enzymes. So eating slowly and chewing properly

improves your digestion in many ways. Our stomach

takes 20 minutes to send a signal to the brain that it

is full. If we eat slowly there are lesser chances of

over eating as we have already received a signal that

the stomach is full. This is a golden rule which needs

to be followed to remain healthy but is commonly

 over looked.

Maybe you lead a very rushed life and find you have

to eat 'on the go', but rushing your food and not

chewing enough can cause indigestion and worsen

 conditions like IBS.

To aid digestion, sit down, eat slowly, don't multitask

while eating, and turn off the TV--even if you are

eating alone.
