SANDALWOOD OIL MEDICINAL PROPERTIES


Sandalwood Oil Medicinal Properties:
Sandalwood is scientifically known as Santalum album, which grows in the forests of India and especially in the States of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, that grows to the height of 30 feet and its leaves are leathery with pink or purple flowers. Sandalwood trees fill the air with their aromatic fragrance that gives a sense of pleasant and spiritual feeling. The Sandalwood oil is being extracted from the thirty year old trees, from the dried and powdered roots, by steam distillation process. The Sandalwood oil produced in the State of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, in India is of superior quality when compared to the oil produced in West Indies, Australia, African countries. Substantial quantities and best quality of Sandalwood oil is being exported from India to Western and other countries.
Sandalwood oil is being used in traditional and Ayurvedic systems of medicine for its medicinal benefits from ancient times, and it is one of the best perfumed oil, and it is proved that this oil can be used continuously. Due to the presence of Anti spasmodic, antiseptic, carminative, anti inflammatory, astringent, anti phlogistic, diuretic, cicatrisant, expectorant, emollient, disinfectant, hypotensive, sedative and memory booster properties, the Sandalwood oil is considered as the most significant oil. Sandalwood paste and oil is widely used in pharmaceutical industry, for the treatment of skin disorders, beautification treatments, and in various consumable products such as deodorants, room fresheners, mouth fresheners, lotions, soaps, and creams for its best known medicinal qualities.

Sandalwood oil is also widely used in cosmetics and in religious festivals and clean the environs, as it fragrance and aroma clears the microbes and insects, available in the form of sprays, fumigants and incense sticks.
