HEALTHY DIET TO BEAT DEPRESSION

Your emotional state is affected by what you eat and drink, what you don’t eat and drink, and by everything that is going on inside and around you. Some people are sensitive to particular winds, pollutants, magnetic fields and other people.

Some people are clearly depressed because they are overweight. They are overweight for various reasons—or they are feeling depressed and eating excessively for consolation. Aside from its effect on self-image, when people put on weight they tend to exercise less because they are sluggish or their feet hurt. As a consequence arthritic symptoms may worsen, causing pain and restricting movement even more. Each factor contributes to further impairment. In other cases, a mineral deficiency may cause depression; the mineral deficiency may be caused by chronic diarrhea brought on by an allergy. In addition, tests performed on people suffering from depression show that some of their immune cells are relatively low.

Depressive disorders are more common among cigarette smokers and those with a high caffeine intake (from coffee and soft drinks). However, it may be that people who are depressed, look for quick support in any form, for example, alcohol or chocolate. If you experience a marriage breakup, move, or lose your job or savings, you will understandably be feeling low and anxious. A number of these depression triggers may be beyond your control and you may need to seek a professional approach.

Muslims generally break their fast by eating dates. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is reported to have said: "If anyone of you is fasting, let him break his fast with dates. In case he does not have them, then with water. Verily water is a purifier."

The Prophet used to break his fast by eating some dates before offering Maghrib prayer, and if ripe dates were not available, he used to substitute them with some dried grapes. When they too were not available, he used to have a few sips of water, according to some reports. Modern science has proved that dates are part of a healthy diet. They contain sugar, fat and proteins, as well as important vitamins. Hence the great importance attached to them by the Prophet.

Dates are also rich in natural fibres. Modern medicine has shown that they are effective in preventing abdominal cancer. They also surpass other fruits in the sheer variety of their constituents. They contain oil, calcium, sulphur, iron, potassium, phosphorous, manganese, copper and magnesium. In other words, one date is a minimum of a balanced and healthy diet. Arabs usually combine dates with milk and yogurt or bread, butter and fish. This combination indeed makes a self-sufficient and tasty diet for both mind and body. Dates and date palms have been mentioned in the Holy Qur'an 20 times, thus showing their importance.

Mariam (the Virgin Mary) mother of Jesus had dates as her food when she felt labour pains and during confinement. They are definitely the "crown of sweets," and ideal food which is easy to digest, and within half an hour of taking it, the tired body regains a renewed vigour. The reason for this is that a shortage of sugar in the blood is the main factor that makes people feel hungry and not an empty stomach as is often assumed. When the body absorbs the nutritional essence of a few dates, the feeling of hunger becomes appeased. When one breaking the fast with dates takes some other food afterwards, he cannot eat much. It would seem that breaking the fast with dates then helps one avoid excessive eating.

Experiments have also shown that dates contain some stimulants that strengthen the muscles of the uterus in the last months of pregnancy. This helps the dilation of the uterus at the time of delivery on one hand and reduces the bleeding after delivery on the other. Dieticians consider dates as the best food for women in confinement and those who are breast-feeding. This is because dates contain elements that assist in alleviating depression in mothers and enriching the breast-milk with all the elements needed to make the child healthy and resistant to disease. The Prophet (PBUH) has emphasized the importance of dates and their effectiveness in the growth of the fetus. He has also recommended they be given to women. Modern dietary institute now recommend dates to be given to children suffering from a nervous nature or hyperactivity. The Prophet (PBUH) has also recommended dates as a medicine for heart troubles, according to some reports.

Modern science has also proved the effectiveness of date, in preventing diseases of the respiratory system.
Ayeshah, (R.A.) wife of Prophet (PBUH), used to prescribe dates for those suffering from giddiness. It is now well known that a fall in the level of the sugar in the blood and low blood pressure are among the causes of giddiness. She was also reported to have used dates combined with cucumber to treat her over-slim condition! She said, "they've tried to fatten me giving me everything. But I did not become fat. Then they fattened me with cucumber and ripe dates and I gained!" Ayeshah was quite correct, as we now know that one kilogram of dates contains nearly 3,000 calories which alone are sufficient to supply the minimum daily requirements of an active man for one full day.
Dates are rich in several vitamins and minerals. When the level of trace elements falls in the body, the health of the blood vessels is affected leading to an increased heart-rate and a consequent inability to perform its function with normal efficiency. As dates are also rich in calcium, they help strengthen the bones. When the calcium content in the body decreases, children are affected with rickets and the bones of adults become brittle and weak.

Dates are also important in keeping up the health of eyes. It is quite effective in guarding against night-blindness. In the early years of Islam, dates served as food for Muslim warriors. They used to carry them in special bags hung at their sides. They are the best stimulant for muscles and so the best food for a warrior about to engage in battle.
The Prophet (PBUH) used to combine dates with bread sometimes. At other times he mixed ripe dates with cucumber, or dates combined with ghee. He used to take all varieties of dates, but he preferred the variety called Ajwah

Good Luck? Bad Luck? Who Knows?‏

There is a Chinese story of an old farmer who had an old horse for tilling his fields. One day the horse escaped into the hills and, when all the farmer's neighbours sympathised with the old man over his bad luck, the farmer replied, 'Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?'

A week later the horse returned with a herd of wild horses from the hills and this time the neighbours congratulated the farmer on his good luck. His reply was, 'Good luck? Bad luck? Who knows?'

Then, when the farmer's son was attempted to tame one of the wild horses, he fell off its back and broke his leg. Everyone thought this very bad luck. Not the farmer, whose only reaction was, 'Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?'

Some weeks later the army marched into the village and forced every able-bodied youth they found there by law to serve in the army. When they saw the farmer's son with his broken leg they let him off. Now was that good luck? Bad luck? Who knows?

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! * FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.
If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil....

So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc  actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!

Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes all these will NOT happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!

KIWI: Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

APPLE: An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

ORANGE : Sweetest medicine. Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key source of lycopene  the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content.. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes.

If I Could Speak‏

If I could speak, here's what I would say
Happy in your arms, I want to stay.
I am your gift, and you are mine too!
Let love bond together, both me and you.
Lets enjoy this time, right here, right now.
Don't let a schedule furrow your brow.
Right now is the time, for me to hold,
When you're less busy, I'll be too old.
Snuggle me tenderly, close to your chest
It is here next to you, I am, at my best.
Your rhythmic breathing and beating heart,
Contentment, and comfort, to me impart.
To see you, smell you, assured by your voice,
All, wonderfully simple, yet help me rejoice.
A cuddle, a kiss, some playful fun and frolic,
Can banish a mood, and prevent nasty colic.
Hold me, hug me, please show me your day
You'll be sharing your love, in a marvelous way.
My learning is best when perched at your side
With arms as my classroom and you as my guide.
Please hold me up high, so I might see
All the many wonders, surrounding me.
With time spent close, as you socialize,
My mind expands and clearly I vocalize!
When you work, walk or take a short trip
With me safely balanced, upon your hip
My muscle tone and self esteem are greater,
I'll be walking much sooner, rather than later.
When we are in 'touch', it reduces our stress
We are happiest then, and worry much less.
Safe in your arms, dispels all my fears.
My beaming smiles, replace anxious tears.
To dream of our future is significant too,
And I know a career is important to you.
When I am older, then we'll join in the race
We'll be more able, to keep up the pace.
Right now, what I know, as certain and right
Is that you are my sun, the source of my light.
I don't need many things, expensive or new.
What I need is your love, your time and you.

9 Powerful Brain Benefits of Music

Music moves us. It stirs us to action, and affects our emotions.
But can it help you prepare for a big race or an exam?
Will it calm a stressed-out mom or help someone get over an illness?
Can music make you maintain your focus and keep you feeling younger?
You probably know what the answer is already. Yes. Music can do this, and more.
Music stimulates various parts of the brain, making it an effective therapeutic or mood-altering tool.
Music’s pitch, rhythm, meter and timbre are processed in various parts of the brain ranging from the prefrontal cortex to the hippocampus to the parietal lobe.
Anyone can experience the benefits of music on the brain.
Although certain types of music naturally lend themselves to particular applications, personal preference matters a lot. If you don’t like a particular type of music, it will actually have the opposite effect than its intended use!
The heightened mental arousal brought about by music can be used every day to enhance your life experience.
Here’s how:
1. De-stressing and healing
Just the right soothing music decreases stress, including lowering the levels of the stress hormone cortisol.
Personal preference is important: obviously if smooth jazz makes you angry, it’s not the right music to listen to for relaxation!
Soothing music is also beneficial in a healing situation – again, by decreasing stress, and also by elevating the patient’s mood.
2. Immune booster
Upbeat dance music boosts your immune system.
This may be partially due to the hypnotic beat of the music that causes the brain to go into the alpha state where the brain begins releasing endorphins (a natural painkiller) and healing hormones.
Stress reduction plays a big part here as well.
3. Enhanced exercise
You probably already know how music makes a boring workout more fun.
There’s a correlation between upbeat, fast-paced music and the effectiveness of your exercise.
It serves as a point of focus, taking your mind off your aches and burning muscles, and it motivates you.
This may go back to the caveman days, when rhythmic drumbeats were used to put people into a trance, or to pump them up before a hunt or battle. Not much different than the beats we hear at a dance club…
The heart also entrains to the beat of the music, making it easier to exercise to fast-paced music because the heart is already in sync with the tempo.
Using dance music for exercise will not only make the workout fun, but will improve your immune response!
4. Meditation aid
Rhythmic drumming and chanting have been used for many thousands of years to put people in a trance-like state of altered consciousness.
Omharmonics meditation music (with its embedded binaural technology) helps to quickly create a tranquil meditative state.
5. Memory recall
Some studies have shown a substantial increase in memory recall while listening to classical music, especially Mozart.
The famous “Mozart Effect” doesn’t actually promise increased intelligence…
…although studies have shown that children who are brought up learning musical instruments or singing are better at spatial-temporal reasoning.
6. Anti-anxiety
Music is very good at promoting self-soothing: have you ever hummed a tune to decrease anxiety or to remain calm under pressure?
If you have a theme song you like to play before competition or some big event, you know exactly how helpful this is – and it can be anything you really like – anything to distract you from the stress of the moment and get you pumped up.
7. Anti-fatigue, anti-boredom
Music helps keep you energized and productive – but be careful here…
…blaring metal or fast dance music just to stay awake might not be something your co-workers appreciate.
The best music for focus doesn’t have distracting words or a complex melody.
8. Heightened spiritual experience
Music has been a part of religious and spiritual traditions since the dawn of humankind.
It enhances the feeling of unity with a higher power or energy, and many spiritual practices employ rhythmic chanting to create an altered state of consciousness.
9. Improved mood
Research has shown that music generally improves mood.
If you’re slogging through a boring day at work, forcing yourself through a tough workout, trying to motivate yourself to mop the floor… music will help!
Your favorite music might even make house cleaning go twice as fast since you tend to move along with the music and dance your way through your cleaning chores.
And even if it doesn’t actually make time go faster, you’ll enjoy what you’re doing more.
In the case of cleaning the house, that’s a great thing!
Music is the universal language.
Humans are hard-wired to appreciate and need music – so find some music you enjoy, and let its good vibrations stimulate your brain in wonderful ways!
