Guava Nutritional Benefits :
Guava fruits are highly nutritious and are very popular for its taste and flavor, and for its functional qualities it is regarded as one of the super fruit. These fruits are round or oval shaped measuring 5 to 10 cms in size and weighs about 50gms to 200 gms per fruit. The pulp of flesh of the fruits is white or yellow or purple depending upon the cultivar of the region, these trees are cultivated as commercial crop all over the world and these fruits are available round the year.
The guava leafs and skin of these fruits had more concentration of antioxidants such as lycopene. The guava fruits contain minerals like  phosphorous, magnesium, potassium, iron, selenium, sodium, calcium, copper, manganese and zinc and vitamins namely, Vitamin B6, B2, B1, folate, pantothenic acid niacin, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamin K, in addition to these, it contain proteins, dietary fiber and high calorific value.

Guava nutritional benefits are, the presence of pectin and other essential micronutrients in guavas lowers LDL and increases HDL cholesterol. The rich source of lycopene gives protection against prostate cancer and also blocks the growth of carcinogens thus acting against the degenerative diseases such as cancer. The oil found in leaf of guava is more effective than cancer drugs against blocking of cancerous tumors.
The guava leaf extracts are also found effective against acne, inflammation, cough, and diarroea. The presence of guaijaverin, flavanoid acts against bacteria that causes dental problems, thus enhances the dental care.
The presence of phytochemicals and phytonutrients cited above help to regulate blood glucose levels and it has been found effective in type 2 diabetes patients, because these fruits contain the phyochemicals that improve the secretion of insulin thus it is more helpful for diabetic patients.
As it has rich source of dietary fiber, along with the other nutrients it prevents the absorption fats, controls cholesterol, produces laxative action, gives protection against colon, prostate and oral cavity cancers. Lycopene is known to be effective to give protection against the damage caused to the skin by Ultra violet rays of sun.
The presence of electrolytes, such as potassium regulates heart rate, controls hypertension and the copper boost the production of RBC’s.  To conclude, all the essential micro nutrients are present in guava fruits, which contribute to better health.
